Yay! We finally have an office space! Well, I guess I should say I have an office space because let’s be honest, this momma is craving to have an area to call my own…all my own. And now that it’s done I have to wonder why we didn’t do it sooner! I realized I was holding on to pieces of furniture that was taking up space simply because we spent money on it or it was given to us. That reasoning was creating a pretty big problem for me. After all, I’m quite positive the only way you can own things is if you buy them or they were given to you. Which means that 100% of our stuff fell into either one of those categories so I think it’s safe to say I was putting myself on course to be on that TLC Hoarders show. Super happy I dodged that bullet.
Anyways, we finally got rid of a few things to open up space for our new office and I am so excited to show you!
During the planning stage, I spent a lot of time on Pinterest to get some inspiration. I knew I wanted it to be pretty, softly feminine, and functional. Lately, I’ve been gravitating to a more minimalist modern farmhouse look with some Scandinavian elements. I wanted something simple, bright, and neutral with some texture. Living in an apartment it was also important that the footprint was small. Last, but not least it needed to fit our budget of $250 or less.
I saw this desk at Target and really liked its farmhouse industrial vibe. It has two drawers and a power source built in which I really loved. When I went to Target it was listed for $109 but I had looked online earlier and it was on sale for $98. On top of that, there was a code for 10% off that the cashier honored so I got it for around $90!
The white lamp is a Target find as well and I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it! It’s just the right size and adjustable so it’s easy to make it work for whatever space you have!
I got the hourglass, gold desktop organizer, marble sticky note dispenser, memo and white board at Target as well. The organizer and dispenser have a nice weight to them, which was really great considering how affordable they were. I bought the hourglass thinking it would be a great way to monitor the time while working so I wouldn’t be tempted to check Facebook or Instagram from looking at my phone. I was super disappointed when I realized the sand runs through in about twenty minutes instead of sixty. Yes, I know I can just cycle through it three times but just to let you know, it’s not a legit hour glass. But I do love the style it brings to my desktop! The elephant and greenery came from Hobby Lobby and I was able to get them for 40%-50% off the retail price!
I wanted to add a bright and modern element as well so I choose this awesome Eames armchair from Amazon. I wasn’t sure at first how it would work with everything else but I thought I’d give it a shot and I am so glad I did! I really love how it came together and it was just the touch I was looking for! I also draped a small faux sheepskin rug to bring in some additional texture and comfort.
It has been so nice to have a central location for paying bills, perusing the internet and writing blog posts. I don’t think we are completely finished with the space but I wanted to use the office in its current set up for a while to get a feel for what is lacking in regards to functionality. So far I am thinking I’d like to add a few shelves as well as some additional storage for filing bills and other important paperwork. I am also hoping to find a creative solution to hide those pesky cords hanging out behind the desk. I’ll tackle that as soon as I am positive about the placement of everything!
I think that’s it! If you are interested in any of these items for yourself be sure to check out the source list below! Thanks for stopping by!
